Butch Trusty: The Program Officer
Butch Trusty is the Education Program Director at The Joyce Foundation, based in Chicago, IL. Prior to joining Joyce, Butch was a manager with The Bridgespan Group, an organization that advises mission-driven nonprofits and philanthropists on strategies to accelerate their impact. At Bridgespan, Butch assisted entities such as The Community Foundation in Jacksonville, 100 Black Men of America, Newark Public Schools and The Foundation for Newark’s Future, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Education Equality Project, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, and New York City’s District 79. Prior to joining Bridgespan, he developed a communications strategy for the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation, as an Education Pioneers fellow, and completed research on high school graduation rate policy and the social and economic returns of federal investments in secondary education for the Alliance for Excellent Education. From 2003-2005, he worked as a business development specialist for Edison Schools (now EdisonLearning) on teams that secured charter school management and district school turnaround contracts that provided over $20 million in new revenue for the company. He holds an A.B. in Public Policy from Brown University and MBA and MPP degrees from Duke University.
